Japan and Saudi Arabia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on defence collaboration with a view to supporting defence trade. The MoU was signed in Tokyo on 2 September during talks between Japan's defence minister, Tomomi Inada, and her visiting counterpart, Mohammad bin Salman Al Saud. In a statement the Japanese Ministry of Defense (MoD) said the agreement will support strengthened defence exchanges as well as defence-related education, training and research. The two countries also pledged to expand collaboration on maritime security issues and defence equipment, although the MoD has not elaborated on potential programmes.
