Denel Land Systems (DLS) launched its new 7.62 mm DMG-5 general-purpose machine gun (GPMG) at AAD. The weapon weighs nearly 2 kg less than its predecessor. Steve Matthews, the chief engineer for infantry weapons at DLS, told IHS Jane's that, although the press release stated that the infantry version of the DMG-5 weighs 9 kg, it is actually 8.4 kg, which represents a significant reduction on the 10.32 kg of the company's SS77. A standard FNMAGweighs 11.8kg.
