The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) are setting up a heavy bomber division in Russia's Far East to patrol the area over the Pacific Ocean within the Japan-Hawaii-Guam triangle, Russian newspaper Izvestia reported on 6 October. The formation "consists of several squadrons of long-distance bombers deployed in the Eastern and Central military districts", an unnamed Russian defence ministry representative told the newspaper. The division will reportedly be composed of several dozen Tu-95MS strategic missile bombers and Tu-22M3 long-range bombers and be located at airfields in the regions of Irkutsk and Amur.
