The US State Department and US Department of Commerce released revisions to the definitions they apply to the export of fire control, laser, imaging, and guidance equipment on 12 October. The items, which fall under category 12 of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), are receiving the same treatment as 17 other categories, which have been revised to push more items onto the Commerce Control List (CCL) to help focus scrutiny on items more closely tied to weapon systems.
