The Pentagon announced the topline budget figure for spending on military intelligence in 2016 on 28 October. The agency spent USD17.7 billion in fiscal year 2016: an increase from the USD16.5 billion spent in 2015. The Pentagon does not release details on the intelligence budget, but does report a topline figure annually. The increase brings spending closer to 2014 levels, when the agency spent USD17.4 billion. The year before, in 2013, spending was USD18.6 billion, which had been reduced by the sequestration mechanism from a budgeted level of USD19.2 billion.
