US naval shipbuilder Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) has announced the merger of its two nuclear operations and environmental services companies into a single subsidiary. The company said on 21 January that SM Stoller and Newport News Nuclear will be merged to form Stoller Newport News Nuclear (SN3). HII, created in March 2011 after the spin-off of Northrop Grumman's shipbuilding interests, is the sole supplier of US nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and one of two US shipbuilders that provide nuclear-powered submarines.
