The US Navy (USN) intends to extend the current Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) block buy contract, initially awarded in fiscal year 2010 (FY 2010), to include the first of three sea-frames planned for acquisition in FY 2016, IHS Jane's has learned. Under the FY 2010-15 block buy contract, the navy is acquiring 20 LCS seaframes: 10 ships apiece from Austal USA, which is constructing the Independence variant, and from the Lockheed Martin-led industry team, which is building the Freedom-variant LCS.
