The era of Libya having two air forces operating in the name of the rival governments based in Tripoli and Tobruk may have come to an end on 23 March when the Libya Dawn coalition lost an aircraft. The Libyan National Army (LNA), which fights on behalf of the Tobruk government, said it shot down the aircraft after it carried out a raid on Zintan airport. Video footage and photographs of the wreckage suggested the aircraft was a MiG-23. The Libyan Air Force posted a photograph of a vehicle-mounted Igla-S (SA-24) system on its Face-book page, suggesting the short-range air defence system was responsible for bringing down the aircraft, and identified the deceased pilot as retired air force colonel Hussein al-Qultah.
