Russia's Sukhoi T-50 PAK-FA fifth-generation fighter programme is falling victim to the country's deteriorating economic situation, according to 23 March statements by Yuri Borisov, the deputy minister of defence for armaments. Borisov made his comments during a visit to the Komsomolsk-na-Amure Aviation Production Association plant, which makes the aircraft. "This factory is already prepared to begin series-production of this fifth-generation aeroplane as of 2016," Borisov said, but added that the Ministry of Defence (MoD) had the right to re-evaluate the number of units it intends to procure.
