Turkey's indigenous Huerkus trainer aircraft will enter service in 2018, according to the country's defence ministry (MoD). The MoD also confirmed that an additional 15 KT-1T trainers will be purchased from Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) as a stop gap measure until Hiirkus enters into service. The MoD's statement came in response to a question posed by an opposition deputy late last year over whether Turkey had prioritised the off-the-shelf purchase of additional KT-1T trainers from South Korea due to delays in the Huerkus programme. Questions were also raised over whether the purchase of more KT-ITs would have negative impact on the marketing of the locally developed aircraft.
