Future Turkish aircraft procurement is dominated by two key fighter programmes: the F-35 JSF and the indigenous Turkish Fighter Aircraft (TF-X). The acquisition of 100 F-35A Lightning Us worth USD16 billion is making good progress, with the country committing to a further four aircraft in January beyond the two already on order. Initial F-35 deliveries are expected in 2018. TF-X is intended to replace the F-16C/D Block 30 fleet in the mid-2020s and the SSM issued a request for information in March to formally start preliminary design work on the programme, with a request for proposals expected in the third quarter of 2015. Aselsan announced in January that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Eurojet to discuss work on an engine for TF-X based on the EJ200 used on the Eurofighter Typhoon.
