Major General Michael Lundy, commander of the US Army Aviation Center of Excellence, is balancing the army's current aviation needs while shaping its next generation of rotorcraft under the Future Vertical Lift (FVL) programme. The army is looking towards FVL without setting firm requirements immediately, the general emphasised during an interview with IHS Jane's at the annual Army Aviation Association of America summit in late March. "We know the capabilities we need," he said, "but I'm not going to tell industry that it needs to look, sound, or smell like this. Instead, I'm going to tell them, 'You come back to me with how you're going to meet those capabilities'."
