India's Ministry of Defence (MoD) approved acquisitions worth INR250 billion (USD4.03 billion) on 13 May, including the purchase of the BAE Systems M777 155mm/39 calibre howitzer and the fulfillment of India's Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) requirement. The MoD's Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), headed by Defence Minister Manohar Par-rikar, also cleared the licenced manufacture of more than 200 Russian Kamov Ka-226T light multirole helicopters, tentatively agreed during Russian president Vladimir Putin's visit to India in December 2014.
