India and the United States extended their 10-year bilateral Defence Framework Agreement to mid-2025 on 3 June. Signed in New Delhi by US defence secretary Ashton Carter and his Indian counterpart, Manohar Parrikar, the agreement envisages "high-level strategic discussions, continued exchanges between both armed forces, and strengthening of defence capabilities". It also acknowledges the "transformative" nature of the Defence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI), under which the two sides have agreed to co-develop and co-produce US military equipment in India. Under the DTTI the two officials finalised accords on two of four 'pathfinder' projects agreed during President Barack Obama's visit to India in January, each with USD1 million in funding to be shared equally by both countries.
