Established in Ostend, Belgium naval mine warfare, in 1965, Eguermin, the Belgian-Netherlands Mine Warfare School, has a long tradition in naval mine warfare education. The school's reputation has grown steadily over the years, culminating in its certification as the NATO Naval Mine Warfare Centre of Excellence (CoE) in 2006.. "We are more than just a school," Eguer-min's director, Royal Netherlands Navy Commander Nico Vasseur, told IHS Jane's. "Eguermin is a hub in the mine countermeas-ures [MCM] network [in addition to being] without doubt one of the best - if not the best - institutions in which to learn how to deal with mine countermeasures." One of the major challenges the school faces is ensuring that its instructors are still the most experienced naval mine warfare specialists around, noted the commander.
