Rostec, Russia's state-owned defence industrial giant, announced on 30 June that United Engine Corporation (UEC) has completed the repair of RD-33 series 2 MiG-29 engines. The engine repairs had become more complicated because a number of parts for the contract were set to come from Ukrainian contractors. Following the annexation of Crimea by Russia and further clashes with Russian-backed separatists in other areas, Ukraine stopped exports of military items to Russia. Rostec said the contract was not due to be completed until November, but UEC had effectively produced substitute parts and completed the contract nearly six months early.
