The Nigerian Army is set to establish an aviation wing, the chief of the army staff, Lieutenant General Kenneth Minimah, reportedly said on 25 June. Citing a statement released by the army, Nigeria's Daily Trust newspaper reported that Lt Gen Minimah told a group of 10 soldiers enrolled in a course at a civilian flying school at Enugu that they are the nucleus of a new aviation wing that is being established to complement the Nigerian Air Force (NAF). The statement added that the decision to establish a new army aviation wing was based on lessons learned during counter-insurgency operations against the militant group known as Boko Haram.
