French shipbuilder DCNS is expected to secure a contract to deliver a detailed study for the refit of Brazilian Navy aircraft carrier NAe Sao Paulo (A 12). A contract was slated for before mid-2015 but is still awaiting signature, Nathalie Smirnov, senior vice-president of services at DCNS, told IHS Jane's. The work is scheduled to be followed by a contract for installing a complete integrated diesel-electric propulsion suite, refit of catapults, and other work intended to extend the ship's service life by up to 15 years.
