A Lockheed Martin official told reporters on 16 July that the company's third Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) in build for the US Navy (USN) has been repaired following an incident that occurred during builder's trials, and is completing work to enable it to recommence testing within the next two months. In final assembly and testing at Fincantieri's Marinette Marine Corp shipyard in Wisconsin, Milwaukee (LCS 3) had been conducting pre-checks for a final at-sea phase of builder's trials in May 2015 when it suffered a propulsion issue as the ship attempted to get under way. An assessment revealed that damage to the starboard propulsion train had occurred when the shaft line spun without proper lubrication.
