The Israeli Air Force (IAF) has completed its Sikorsky CH-53 life-extension programme. The IAF said the last CH-53 left its Aerial Maintenance Unit workshop in late July. It declined to say precisely how many helicopters have been upgraded. The nine-year project was aimed at extending the lives of the IAF's CH-53 'Yusur' transport helicopters by 10 years by replacing their engines, communications, navigational systems, self-defence capabilities, and flight controls, and repairing cracks in their airframes.
