A Colombian Air Force (FAC) Airbus Defence and Space CN235M aircraft crashed on 31 July, killing all 11 on board. The aircraft reported an engine malfunction before it crashed over Agustin Codazzi, Cesar. The aircraft is understood to have been undertaking an intelligence operation. Images of the wreckage reveal that FAC-1261 was one of three CN235M-100 transport aircraft delivered in 1997-98. Two of the three CN235MS had recently been modified for the electronic intelligence (ELINT) role, as their pure transport role with the 811th Transport Squadron has been taken over by five Airbus Military C295M medium transports. IHS Jane's understands from local sources that the other CN235M aircraft modified for the ELINT role is FAC-1262.
