India's Department of Defence Production published a formalised list of defence equipment export categories on 17 August, with the new system aimed at aligning India's defence export regulations with international norms. The published list creates 16 categories, ranging from armoured vehicles, personal protection equipment, and naval vessels to electronic equipment. The changes come as India looks to join the Wasenaar Arrangement - an international export control organisation based in Vienna, Austria, that develops internationally recognised regulations for the trade of military equipment - as well as the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR).
