A heavyweight Japanese government and industry delegation has delivered the first public sales pitch to support Japan's bid to design and construct the replacement for the Royal Australian Navy's Collins-class submarine fleet. Addressing an Adelaide industry forum on 26 August, delegation members maintained that an evolution of Japan's 4,000-tonne Soryu-class design would fulfil Australia's Sea 1000 requirements and could be built in Australia.
