India's Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) has approved another batch of defence industry licences to enable more private-sector companies to expand into the defence sector. The DIPP stated in a notice published on 9 October that its licencing committee has approved proposals submitted by about 20 companies, enabling the production of items including military aircraft components, night-vision devices, radars, unmanned systems, artillery, and naval vessels. The approvals are the latest set of proposals to have been cleared by the Narendra Modi administration as part of its efforts to promote indigenous defence manufacturing through the 'Make in India' campaign.
