Bahrain has denied a report that some of the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states are in negotiations to purchase Israeli air-defence systems to counter the threat of Iranian missiles. Bahraini information minister Abd-al-Rahman al-Hammadi told the local Al-Wasat newspaper on 15 October that the GCC states "are looking into buying an antimissile defence system from the United States and there are no attempts whatsoever to purchase the system from Israel as claimed by the television channel".
