South African state-owned defence group Denel will launch a new maritime division at the Maritime Africa exhibition taking place in Cape Town next month. Event organisers confirmed on 30 October that Denel is sponsoring Maritime Africa, which is taking place on 23 and 24 November. Denel has been considering forming a maritime division for some time with a view to bringing existing state-owned naval assets into the company's structure. South Africa's Naval Dockyards was transferred from the navy's control to that of national military procurement body Armscor in 2001 and will form the heart of Denel's new maritime unit.
