The US military is working with Airbus Defence and Space (DS) to gain emergency aerial refuelling clearances for its fleet of combat aircraft operating in the Middle East, a company spokesperson said on 2 November. Speaking in Seville at the company's annual media briefing, the head of the A330 MultiRole Tanker Transport (MRTT) programme, Antonio Caramazana, said that both the US Air Force (USAF) and US Navy (USN) have had discussions on gaining emergency refuelling clearances and that a plan is now in place for rolling this capability out over the coming months.
