The US Air Force (USAF) could delay its planned retirement of the Fairchild-Republic A-10C Thunderbolt II ground attack aircraft for several years due to its high usage rates, a top USAF general said on 10 November. "We have to retire the airplanes, but I think moving it to the right and starting it a bit later and maybe keeping around the airplane a bit longer is something that's being considered based on things as they are today and what we see in the future," said General Herbert Carlisle, head of US Air Combat Command.
