Results from a fleet-wide survey of unmanned systems requirements plus technologies that could help fill gaps will be 'racked and stacked' in early 2016 by the US Navy's (USN's) new division responsible for autonomous technology efforts, its chief told IHS Jane's on 20 November. A handful of those technology solutions will then be selected to proceed through a two-year rapid prototyping and demonstration phase, said Rear Admiral Robert Girrier, director of unmanned warfare systems (N99) on the chief of naval operations (OPNAV) staff.
