The US Navy (USN) announced on 24 January that Raytheon will keep the contract for the Next Generation Jammer (NGJ) following the results of a cost/technical trade-off study. "The navy completed corrective action as recommended by the GAO [US Government Accountability Office] in the sustained protest filed by BAE [Systems] on the Next Generation Jammer Technology Develop- ment [TD] contract," said Marcia Hart, spokesperson for the USN's Program Executive Office-Tactical Aircraft programmes. Each of the original three bidders (BAE Systems, Northrop Grumman, and Raytheon) has been notified of the resulting decision, Hart added in a statement. The USN lifted its 'stop work' order on 17 January. The order had been in place since July 2013. Raytheon said it will now complete the preliminary design of the NGJ system for the EA-18G Growler advanced electronic attack aircraft. The NGJ will replace the ageing AL-99 jammer and its installation is expected to begin in the 2020 timeframe.
