The Pentagon and US Marine Corps (USMC) are considering doubling down on a special-purpose task force construct by establishing more units and making them permanent, with an outgoing commander praising the force's mobility but saying he would like an on-the-move planning capability. In 2013, in response to a deadly attack on the US Embassy in Benghazi, Libya, the USMC set up a Special-Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force - Crisis Response (SP MAGTF-CR) in Moron, Spain, as an asset allocated to US Africa Command.
