The House Armed Services Committee (HASC) has approved legislation authorising USD600.7 billion in defence spending for fiscal year 2015 (FY 2015) in a bill that prioritises equipment and reflects lawmakers' hope that 'sequestration' might be reversed next year. Panel members on 8 May voted to approve USD521.3 billion in defence funds and USD79.4 billion in supplemental Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) funds; the former includes USD495.8 billion in discretionary base funding for the Department of Defense (DoD), USD17.9 billion in discretionary funding for the Department of Energy, and USD7.9 billion in mandatory defence spending.
