The US Air Force (USAF) is considering development of a new open-architecture ISR integration platform to replace its Distributed Common Ground System (DCGS) in order to save money and to gain more flexibility in contested environments, a top service official said on 9 June. "We have a great architecture that supports permissive environments very well," Lieutenant General Robert Otto, the USAF's deputy chief of staff for ISR, told IHS Jane's following an Air Force Association presentation. He was referring to the USAF's proprietary DCGS system, which is its primary ISR collection, processing, exploitation, analysis, and dissemination tool.
