The arms embargoes imposed on Zimbabwe are having an impact on the Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ), according to its commander, Air Marshal Perrance Shirl. "The economic sanctions affected the acquisition of new aircraft, spare parts and support equipment," Zimbabwe's Herald newspaper quoted him as saying during a speech at the country's National Defence College. "The financial demands for the above have become exorbitant as most purchases have to be done using sanctions-busting measures the country has established so far."
