The Polish Ministry of National Defence (MND) announced on 30 June it had invited Raytheon and Eurosam to tender for the country's Wisla (Vistula) medium-range air and missile defence (AMD) system requirement. The two companies are offering the Patriot and SAMP/T (Surface-to-Air Missile Platform/ Terrain, or Sol-Air Moyenne Portee Terrestre) systems respectively. Fourteen companies had shown interest in the programme, with four bidders asked to engage in talks: Raytheon; Eurosam (a Thales-MBDA consortium); MEADS International; and the Israeli government, representing Israeli air defence system suppliers. The tender is planned to begin in September/October, with a selection decision and contract award made in 2015 for deliveries in 2017, with a total of six batteries planned by 2022.
