The UK's parliamentary watchdog for arms exports, the Committees on Arms Export Controls (CAEC), has issued a critical report on the UK government's export control process and branded the government "irresponsible" over its decision to allow the export of dual-use chemicals to Syria in January 2012 following the start of the civil war. The rebuke is in the Committees' 2014 Annual Report on Arms Export Controls, released on 23 July, which also highlights recent decisions to ease the export approval criteria and questions the efficacy of the UK's arms embargo on Russia.
