The Malawian government is renegotiating a defence contract with South Africa's Paramount Group, according to a statement released in the name of both parties. The joint statement was a response to a Malawian newspaper report quoting Finance Minister Goodall Gondwe as saying the deal had been "abrogated". "These reports are not a true reflection of the situation," the joint statement said. "At the request of the Malawian government, Paramount Group is engaged in ongoing constructive dialogue to replace the old contract in order to meet the government's requirements. This dialogue is intended to agree a way forward in the mutual interest of both parties."
