The long-term impact of the United States' recently reformed arms export licensing rules on Europe's defence industrial base is still unclear, although US officials say the year-old reform's trade benefits are already flowing to the 36 trusted US partner nations in Europe and elsewhere. "There's already been an uptick of USD 7 billion of trade in just the last 10 months as a result of the new ITAR rules," said Kevin Wolf, US Assistant Secretary of Commerce, referring to the US International Trade in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
