US Army Pacific (ARPAC) expects to ramp up its 'Pacific Pathways' training and engagement programme with at least three deployments in fiscal year 2015 (FY 2015). ARPAC Commander General Vincent Brooks told reporters in a 13 October press briefing at the AUSA annual conference that he believes the concept has proven beneficial and cost effective, and he would like to do three training 'pathways' in FY 2015 and then three each year thereafter. Each training pathway is a series of stops - Gen Brooks envisions two to three stops per pathway - and if possible he would like these to occur in three different geographic areas to increase options for the US Pacific Command (PACOM) chief, who could then use those troops in an emergency.
