Embraer rolled out the first of two KC-390 prototype transport aircraft at its Gaviao Peixoto production facility, north of Sao Paulo, on 21 October. The ceremony, which was attended by offi cials from 32 countries, marked a major milestone in the programme ahead of the maiden flight, currently scheduled for later this year. "The final details for the first flight are currently being worked out," said Paulo Gastao, Embraer's KC-390 programme manager. "We will now go into ground-vibration tests before the certification authority awards pre-flight clearance for the flight before the end of 2014. We are already building the second prototype, which will fly shortly after the first one."
