The White House and Pentagon have asked Congress for extra funds to support 'moderate' opposition forces to fight against both the Islamic State and the Syrian government. US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel told Congress on 13 November that "preparations for our Syria train-and-equip mission are now complete" and a Combined Joint Interagency Task Force has been established to coordinate a coalition programme. Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and other partner nations have agreed to host training sites.
