US Navy (USN) officials are ready to award industry contracts to build up to 10 further Aegis destroyers, but said they cannot do so until lawmakers resolve the Continuing Resolution (CR) stop-gap measure that is currently funding the government throughout March. "I'm ready to award contracts," said Captain Mark Vandroff, programme manager of the Arleigh Burke-class (DDG 51) destroyers, during a briefing on 15 January at an annual Surface Navy Association symposium.
