The United Kingdom has stood up an expeditionary air wing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the purpose of supporting air links between the UK and deployed operations in Afghanistan, the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 22 January. Formally reactivated on 15 January, the Royal Air Force's (RAF's) 906 Expeditionary Air Wing (EAW) will be based at Al Minhad Air Base and come under the authority of No 83 Expeditionary Air Group that covers the wider Middle East region and Afghanistan.
