Austria's long-serving defence minister Norbert Darabos has left his post, it was confirmed by Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann on 5 March. Darabos is leaving the defence brief to run his party's September 2013 parliamentary election campaign. According to sources from the party, Darabos will be succeeded by Gerald Klug, a largely unknown delegation leader in the second chamber of Vienna's parliament (Bundesrat). He will be sworn in on 11 March. Darabos had held the defence brief since January 2007 and was the EU's longest-serving defence minister.
