Budget cuts are continuing to force the US Navy (USN) to halt scheduled ship and submarine deployments and, in some cases, compelling deployed units to return to home port early, officials said on 23 March. US Pacific Fleet announced that Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagl had approved the cancellation of deployments of two West Coast-based ships. Frigate USS Rentz (FFG 46) and Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Jefferson City (SSN 759) were scheduled to deploy in April but will now remain in home port San Diego, California, where their crews will continue to train and conduct ship maintenance.
