The US Navy (USN) plans to test a redesigned tail hook for the carrier variant of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), the F-35C, later this year at Naval Air Station (NAS) Lakehurst in New Jersey, officials said at the USN's 2013 Sea-Air-Space symposium. "We have high confidence that the tail hook will catch wires at Lakehurst and when we do the first testing [at sea]," said Rear Admiral Randy Mahr, deputy executive officer for the US-led F-35 programme.
