The first of the US Navy's three new DDG 1000 Zum-walt-class guided missile destroyers remains on track to enter the water in the September 2013 timeframe, the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) programme team has confirmed. At Navy League on 9 April, the USN's programme manager for the class, Captain Jim Downey, stated that the USN expects the ship to be delivered to the navy in 2014 before reaching initial operational capability in 2016. He said that the lead ship, which has been in build since February 2009, is more than 80% complete and that "significant build" has taken place since the keel-laying in November 2011.
