The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) announced on 25 April that they had shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) over the Mediterranean earlier that day. "The UAV was tracked by IDF ground and aerial surveillance for the duration of its flightpath as it attempted to approach Israel's coast," they said in a statement. "Israel Air Force aircraft intercepted the UAV and successfully downed the target five nautical miles off the coast of the northern Israeli city of Haifa." IDF naval forces were tasked with searching for the wreckage. Hizbullah issued a brief statement on its television station denying responsibility. The Lebanese group has claimed previous incursions into Israeli airspace, most dramatically the one on 6 October 2012 when a UAV managed to fly deep into southern Israel before being shot down.
