The Chilean Army is continuing to expand its Aviation Brigade's rotary-wing component with more transport platforms and a pending tender to procure attack helicopters, but the service has also found that it needs to renew its fixed-wing transport fleet, sources in Santiago have told IHS Jane's. The army is bolstering its fleet of Eurocopter AS 532 Cougar medium transport helicopters, having bought an additional aircraft in late 2012 for USD25 million - which is scheduled for delivery in the next month or so - and allocated funds to procure three more AS 532s this year.
