A delay in acquiring replacements is forcing the Indian Air Force (IAF) to continue to operate its fleet of about 120 upgraded MiG-21 'Fishbed' fighter aircraft until 2019 - two years beyond their intended retirement date. Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne indicated in New Delhi on 21 April that hold-ups in inducting the locally designed Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) and acquiring 126 Dassault Rafale fighters was responsible for keeping the MiG-2 Ibis variant operational.
